Is this a better plan than the ‘dig ditches all the way around Baghdad’ security plan?
The U.S. plans to build walls between Sunni and Shia neighborhoods in Baghdad. Seriously. That’s their great plan for stopping the violence, walls. I mean, just look at what it’s done for protecting Israelis from Palestinians, or what it did for the Nazis in the 1930s. Checkpoints for any group of people to get from home to work/school/hospital breeds more conflict, not less, especially when those checkpoints, which become lifelines to the outside world, are controlled by the whims of another group of people.
Open air prisons are not a way to resolve conflict, only entrench it further.
Unsurprisingly, Iraqi leaders are speaking out against it. That whole ‘stand up’ thing really only applies to the Iraqi people when they agree with us, obviously.
